Houston Rodeo implements dress code policy after backlash over scantily clad revelers: ‘Put on some damn clothes’

Houston, you have a problem.

Organizers for the world’s largest rodeo are putting their boots down and demanding guests dress appropriately following viral videos featuring scantily clad revelers were deemed inappropriate for the “family environment.”

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo enacted the new dress code policy for the final weekend of this year’s three-week event as millions of people have flocked to the Texas city.

“Proper attire must be worn on HLSR Show grounds at all times, including shirts and appropriate footwear,” the rodeo’s updated code of conduct read.“HLSR reserves the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that is considered inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other guests.”

Banned attire includes “clothing with objectionable material (including obscene language or graphics), excessively torn cloth, visible undergarments, and/or clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment.”

Additionally, any clothing, tattoos or other garments associated with gang affiliation are also prohibited.

Some spectators faced the ire of fellow attendees as they wore the bare minimum of clothing that barely covered their bottoms and torso, showing off too much skin for the rodeo officials.

Rodeo revelers were met with favorable weather, as a majority of days were mostly sunny with a high in the mid to high 70s.

The most popular outfit featured tight, skimpy shorts, a tank top or bra, cowboy boots and the optional cowboy hat, according to photos posted to Facebook.

“This is a family-friendly event, and we expect guests to act accordingly, including wearing appropriate attire and demonstrating behavior that reflects the spirit of the Rodeo. To reinforce that expectation, we have updated our dress code within our fan code of conduct,” the rodeo said.

“This looks so uncomfortable and STANK Why are people showing up to family events like this?” one social media user asked.

“This is a family event, put on some damn clothes!” another wrote.

“This is exactly the type of outfit that caused the dress code,” a third commented on a video of a woman wearing a tight leather tank top. “The rodeo is supposed to be family friendly. you can look good without your entire a– out.”

“The rodeo will have a dress code next year. Some of yall went too far,” a fourth person said days before the new dress policy was put into place.

The annual rodeo, which sees over 2 million visitors a year, officially kicked off on March 2 with the final event, a concert by country artist Cody Johnson on March 22.

NRG Park hosts the events at several venues, including NRG Stadium, the home of the Houston Texans.

Other attractions include nightly rodeo competitions, concerts, livestock shows and plenty of food.
