Channeling a Plaid Blanket, Down to the Fringe

“I always take some pieces from my country,” said Agnès Lenoble, a 30-year-old Uruguayan fashion designer. She was referring to how her approach to style can involve wearing her nationality on her sleeve.

On the Sunday in late February when we met outside the Tate Britain museum in London, she was decked out in items of her own design. They included a fringed plaid wool sweater and matching pants, along with a leather-and-suede bag from Sierra Mora, her brand in Montevideo, Uruguay.

She likes romantic clothing, she said, as well as pieces that are made by hand. Fashion, she added, is a something of a family business.

“My mother used to be a fashion designer and an artist,” she said. “So she taught me and brought to me all this passion for art and design.”
