Aides to all four living former presidents confirmed to CNN on Monday that none spoke with President Donald Trump about his Iran bombing campaign, contradicting Trump’s Oval Office claim.
Trump stated he discussed the strikes with an unnamed former president who allegedly approved the operation and wished he had authorized it himself. But the president refused to identify which president he referenced.
CNN reporters Jeff Zeleny and Samantha Waldenberg contacted representatives for former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden. Clinton’s spokesman confirmed no recent conversations occurred between Clinton and Trump regarding Iran or any other matter.
Aides to Bush, Obama, and Biden similarly reported no communications with Trump about the strikes, with no record of any contact on the subject.
