Bear with us: Reporter’s live shot interrupted by wild encounter in Monrovia

A KTLA news crew in Monrovia, California, got a lot more than they bargained for this weekend while covering a terrifying bear attack on Sunday.

Reporter Erin Myers was standing on a quiet residential street, mic in hand, updating viewers on a woman who had been swiped by a bear just moments earlieron that very spot. The victim had been walking her dog when a bear charged, clawing her behind the knee.

In the middle of the live shot, a black bear casually wandered into the frame behind her. “You can see the bear actually walking into the trap, or no, it was going to, but now it’s walking out,” Myers said.

The surreal moment was caught live on air as the reporter tried to keep her composure while the unexpected co-star roamed behind her.

Officials were trying to determine whether the bear spotted during the broadcast was the same animal involved in the attack.

Luckily, this bear wasn’t looking for a headline. After a brief, heart-stopping moment where it seemed to weigh the pros and cons of an interview, the furry intruder decided it wasn’t ready for its close-up and wandered back into the brush.
