A legal expert revealed on Sunday how Attorney General Pam Bondi’s “inarguable lie” could spectacularly backfire against her.
During a recent hearing on Capitol Hill, Bondi claimed there is “no evidence” that President Donald Trumpcommitted a crime contained in the Jeffrey Epstein files that have been made public. That statement could prove problematic for Bondi in the future, especially if Democrats retake the House of Representatives after the November midterm, according to former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner.
Kirschner discussed how Bondi’s statement could backfire on a new episode of “The Legal Breakdown” with progressive YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen.
Kirschner noted that it is a “real challenge when the Attorney General commits a crime — lying to Congress.” However, he also said there are a few ways to “push the accountability rock up the hill.”
For instance, Kirschner said that Democrats could charge Bondi with contempt for lying to Congress about the Epstein files.
“That is inarguably a lie, and we know because we’ve seen the documents with our own eyes where a teenage girl has accused Donald Trump of criminal conduct,” Kirschner said. “So, she lied to Congress.”
Kirschner added that Bondi’s lie could also expose her to charges for obstructing a Congressional proceeding—the same charge on which Trump ally Roger Stone was convicted of three felony counts in the aftermath of the January 6 insurrection.
