“Grey’s Anatomy” paid tribute to Eric Dane at the end of Thursday’s episode.
Dane, who played Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on the ABC medical drama for seven seasons, was honored with a 60-second montage of some of his most memorable moments.
The tribute was soundtracked by Tommee Profitt and Fleurie’s cover of Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars,”a song that has become synonymous with the show.
The song first appeared in the Season 2 finale in 2006, the same season Dane was introduced as a guest star.

The montage featured when his character was first introduced to viewers — wearing just a towel — as well as his character development from serial dater to proud dad.
“Why are you telling me to give it time when there’s no guarantee time is going to be there?” his character reflects in one scene.
Meanwhile, in another one, he says, “If you love someone, you tell them, even if you’re scared it’s not the right thing, even if you’re scared it’ll burn your life to the ground, you say it. You say it loud.”
The montage closed as his character — who died following a plane crash in Season 7 — tells Ellen Pompeo’s Meredith Grey, “Don’t waste a single second.”
“In loving memory of Eric Dane.
,” the show captioned the video on their Instagram page.

Dane first appeared in Season 2 as a guest star before being brought back as a regular in Season 3. He ultimately left the show in Season 7.
The “Euphoria” actor died Feb. 19, almost a year after he disclosed his battle with ALS. He was 53.
Dane’s family shared in a statement to Page Six, “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS.”

“Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight,” the statement continued. “He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always.”
“Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”
Immediately after, his “Grey’s Anatomy” co-stars rallied on social media with tributes from Kate Walsh, who played Addison Montgomery, Chyler Leigh, who portrayed Dane’s love interest Lexie Grey, and more poured in.

Patrick Dempsey, who played Dane’s best friend Derek Shepherd on the show, called his death “awful, stark and life-altering.”
“I know a lot of people reached out to him before his passing to keep track. He was so beloved and is deeply missed,” he said in an interview with News Talk FM this week.
Dane is survived by his estranged wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters: Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14.
