Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) identified a clear pattern in a key tranche of files that appear to be missing from the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case files — and what they might reveal about a large-scale effort by the Justice Department to shield President Donald Trump.
These files, per earlier reports, pertain to an unnamed woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted by both Epstein and Trump in the 1980s, when she was a minor.
“Congressman, do you believe the president is under investigation?” asked anchor Alicia Menendez.
“Well, the truth is that we just don’t know,” said Garcia, the ranking member on the House Oversight Committee. “I’ll tell you what is pretty clear, though. It’s clear that there is a massive coverup happening right now and that documents that are in a document archive and manifest of what should be appearing in the files, a series of those documents are missing.”
“Now, I personally went into the DOJ to review those files this week. I looked for those documents,” said Garcia. “They all relate to a specific survivor. Those documents are gone. They are not there yet. Other documents that are in that same archive manifest are in the files. And so why these documents are not there? We know that they relate, and we believe they relate to the president, because there are other documents that actually there’s conversation about these these particular interviews. It is outrageous. And the DOJ right now is hiding these documents. And there is no reason, no — certainly no legal reason for them to be doing so.”
The bottom line, he concluded, is that “either the president is under investigation or the DOJ is lying to us. That’s the only reason left that they could be withholding these documents for.”
