President Donald Trump spent part of Wednesday posting endorsements on Truth Social, focusing on primary challengers to Indiana state legislators who defied his command to redistrict the state last year — but he didn’t seem to realize one of the challengers he endorsed isn’t running anymore.
“Bluffton City Councilman Blake Fiechter, a True America First Patriot, is running against ‘RINO’ State Senator Travis Holdman, in Indiana’s 19th Senate District who, for whatever reason, voted against Redistricting in Indiana, in a District that I won by 39 points, which puts the United States Congress in jeopardy,” wrote Trump. “Holdman and his RINO friends made Indiana, a State I love and have been very good to, the only State in the Country that essentially said they don’t care about what happens in the United States Congress.”
“We could have easily picked up two seats in Indiana, so Holdman, an America Last politician, put our Majority in the House of Representatives at risk, thereby putting our Country in a very dangerous position in losing some of the magnificent gains that we have made over the last year, since I assumed the Office of President,” Trump raged.
Fiechter, however, decided to end his campaign earlier this week, leaving some observers baffled at whether Trump even knows what’s going on in the Hoosier State.
“Unclear what’s happening here,” wrote Adam Wren, a Politico correspondent who extensively covered the fight in Indiana.
Trump managed to get a handful of states, including Texas, North Carolina, and Missouri, to redraw their congressional maps last year to be more favorable to Republicans. However, most Republicans in the Indiana state Senate refused to go along with it, expressing concerns about democracy and fairness. After an intense pressure campaign that saw Trump supporters make physical threats against holdouts, the legislature held a vote on a House-passed redraw, which went down decisively.
