The internet erupted Tuesday after an anonymous post on X contained a baseless claim that it obtained a “leaked draft” of President Donald Trump‘s State of the Union address just before the president was set to speak directly to the nation — casting serious skepticism among people who read it.
The X account Rogue WH Snr Advisor shared an image of the purported “leaked” draft that included claims that Trump had planned to create a new system to rate people for their “loyalty.”
“BREAKING: Leaked State of the Union address references ‘TrumpScan’ – a system that creates a social media score based on loyalty to Trump and gives a ‘Patriot Badge’ to those who comply,” according to the post on X.
People responded to the post with plenty of suspicion over the unsubstantiated document and potential parody.
“It’s sad that we have to search up whether or not this is real,” user Lynnez Gone Rogue, who described herself as a Constitutional Democrat, wrote on X.
“Good lord I thought this was real and that is terrifying,” Kate Callaway, Communications Manager at Hope For The Warriors and former sports reporter, wrote on X.
“It’s increasingly difficult to distinguish reality from parody,” E. Colette Nelson, who self-described as a writer and activist, wrote on X.
“I’ll wear my zero with pride,” pilot Steve Giordano wrote on X.
“I would rather put in my retirement paperwork than complete a TrumpScan,” user Mike in Nebraska, who self-described as a aircraft maintenance worker, wrote on X.
Sara McGee, candidate for Texas House, wrote on X, “If this makes it into the speech tonight, I will be deleting all social media and going back to a flip phone as soon as humanly possible.”
