As More Products and Places Bear His Name, Trump Plays Coy

During his State of the Union address on Tuesday, President Trump talked about two programs that he said would help Americans deal with the high costs of health care and raising children.

Both happen to be named after him.

Mr. Trump promoted TrumpRx, an online marketplace that allows people to shop for discounted medications, and Trump accounts, which are long-term savings accounts for babies born during his second term.

“I didn’t name it,” Mr. Trump said about the accounts. “I did not name that. Nobody believes me, but I did not name it. It was named by a very tall man sitting right there in the third row. Nice man, a good man.”

Mr. Trump appeared to be referring to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who has heavily advertised the phrase (and is well above six feet tall).

Later, Mr. Trump said he also had nothing to do with naming TrumpRx. “I didn’t name that one either, by the way,” he said.

For a president who took pride in signing his name to stimulus checks in his first term, Mr. Trump has been coy about all that has been named in his honor during his second. The renaming has been rampant and swift, from putting the president’s name on the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to festooning National Parks passes with images of President George Washington and Mr. Trump.

The rebranding will continue.

On Wednesday, Mr. Trump plans to meet with Sean Duffy, the transportation secretary, to discuss redesigning Dulles International Airport in Virginia. Officials involved have floated renaming the place after him. House Republicans last year introduced a bill to rename the airport, around the time Mr. Trump took office.

“People are asking me about that, but I have not suggested it,” the president said during a January interview with The New York Times. “People are suggesting that all over.”
