A legal expert warned on Monday that a federal judge’s “egregious” ruling showed she has an absolute bias toward President Donald Trump.
Judge Aileen Cannon in Florida issued a ruling on Monday permanently preventing former special counsel Jack Smith’s final report on his investigation into Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 general election from becoming public. In the ruling, Cannon compared Smith’s report to other special counsel reports that had been released after an investigation concluded, and argued that releasing Smith’s report would unfairly damage the president’s reputation.
Andrew Weissmann, a former federal prosecutor, broke down the ruling during an interview with Adam Klasfeld of “All Rise News” on Weissmann’s Substack page.
“I am of the opinion that it is a bias that is absolute,” Weissman said. “It is untethered to the facts and law.”
“Every special counsel that we’ve seen … they’ve all issued reports and they’ve been made public,” he added. “Every single one … What she’s saying is that [she’s] looked at all of the previous cases, and none of them deal with Donald Trump now. So, there’s no precedent for what you’re doing because there’s not a single one that involves Donald Trump.”
“These are distinctions without a difference,” he added.
