‘Just disgusting’: CNN anchor taken aback by new online movement targeting kids

New reporting about an online movement targeting kids left one CNN anchor feeling disgusted on Monday night.

CNN obtained government intelligence reports about a growing movement of “nihilist extremists” who call themselves 764. The group is using the internet to groom children into committing heinous acts, according to the outlet, and law enforcement appears to be just starting to understand how the group works.

While the movement lives online, the government report tied the movement to some recent events, like a school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, and at least four attacks abroad, CNN reported. The documents also suggest that the movement is growing, which could lead to more “mass casualty events.”

CNN spoke with one father whose daughter was a victim of the movement. He described how they manipulated her even though the family had parental controls set on their daughter’s phone.

“She definitely was involved and was love-bombed and then groomed and then extorted,” the father said.

He described how the extremists convinced his daughter to self-mutilate. CNN reported that self-mutilation is one form of blackmail the extremists use to trap their victims. Another form of blackmail they use is asking for nude photos from the children they are preying on, according to CNN.

The girl died by suicide last February, according to the report.

CNN anchor Kate Bolduan was visibly disturbed by the report as she discussed it on “Erin Burnett OutFront.”

“Just disgusting,” she said.
