President Donald Trump has little time to reverse course after shocking new polling results have revealed his base was slipping away from him ahead of midterms, according to an Axios report on Thursday.
Three new polls have revealed that Americans think the president is “so politically toxic” that they preferred former President Joe Biden‘s leadership more, putting Republicans further on edge.
“One year in, Trump has squandered virtually every advantage that won him the presidency. The White House has nine months to turn the ship around before a potential midterm wipeout for Republicans,” Axios reported.
Trump has been vocal critic of Biden throughout his campaign and throughout his first year in office. Despite his view, voters have different thoughts.
“Three national surveys point to the same alarming trend for a president who’s done everything in his power to erase his predecessor’s legacy,” according to Axios.
The new polls include Harvard CAPS/Harris, Rasmussen Reports and YouGov/Economist.
The Harvard CAPS/Harris poll was conducted from Jan. 28 to 29 and “found that 51% of registered voters say Trump is doing a worse job than Biden, compared with 49% who say he’s doing better.”
Trump-friendly pollster Rasmussen cited criticism from MAGA and discovered that 48% of potential voters believe Biden did a better job while in office compared to the 40% who said Trump has performed better during their polling from Feb. 2 to 4. And another 8% said they think both presidents have done “about the same.”
And a YouGov/Economist poll conducted from Feb. 6 to 9 revealed that 46% of American adults say Trump is doing worse than Biden, while 40% believe Trump is doing better than Biden, and 7% who think it’s “about the same.”
CNN polling analyst Harry Enten has pointed to Trump’s net approval rating on the economy (-18), which is 26 points lower than where he was at this time during his first term. It’s now 53 points lower among independents.
“If you know anything about Donald Trump, you know that he built his two presidential victories on winning voters [who are] without a college degree,” Enten said. “Well, Donald Trump’s base with non-college voters is absolutely collapsing.”
