James Van Der Beek, the actor who died on Wednesday at 48 after a battle with colorectal cancer, is most known for his role as the title character Dawson Leery on the popular teen drama “Dawson’s Creek.”
Before the series ended in 2003, Van Der Beek starred in the cult classic film “Varsity Blues.” He went on to make appearances in popular shows including “Ugly Betty,” “How I Met Your Mother” and “Friends With Better Lives.” He also played an arrogant version of himself on the sitcom “Don’t Trust the B___ in Apartment 23.”
Van Der Beek focused more on his family later in his life, often posting on social media the joys and stresses of fathering six children. He also competed on “Dancing With the Stars” in 2019.
One of his last appearances is a role in the “Legally Blonde” prequel “Elle,” which is scheduled to be released on Amazon Prime Video this summer.
