A member of the U.S. Marshals Service shot a man Wednesday afternoon in Northeast Washington, according to D.C. police. Three officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation, said the man died at the scene.
The shooting occurred in the 3700 block of Hayes Street NE, outside the Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools for Public Policy. Students were in the school at the time, a school board spokeswoman said, and were put on lockdown. Authorities said they do not believe that the shooting is connected to the school.
