Top Senator calls for investigation into Mayor Karen Bass over Palisades fire after-report: ‘fraud to cover-up a disaster’

A top Senator blasted Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’s alleged doctoring of an official report into the Palisades fires – saying the self-serving edits appeared to be “fraud to cover-up a disaster.”

“If@MayorOfLA altered this report to cover up the truth in any way, people deserve to know. I sure hope there’s no obstruction of justice here, but for the sake of the victims who’ve gone a year with no answers, it’s worth looking into,” FL Senator Rick Scott wrote on X.

Scott, who is in charge of a federal investigation into the devastating fire, also tagged U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi in his post.

“Grateful the administration is launching a task force to expose waste, fraud, and abuse in California and around the country,” he added.

“While they’re at it, I’d suggest they look into this… sure seems like fraud to cover-up a disaster to me.”

Mayor Bass has been accused of an attempt to protect the city of Los Angeles from legal liability by watering down the report’s findings, allegedly making changes to make the city look better, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The report claimed city leaders went “above and beyond” in their duties despite the fact 16,000 homes and structures were destroyed and 12 people died, causing $150 billion in damages.

Bass has denied the claims.

“Mayor Bass has been unequivocal for months — she reviewed an early draft of the report and only asked the LAFD to make sure it was accurate on issues like weather and budget,” her office said Wednesday.
