Police fatally shoot suspect who had shotgun shells with ‘threatening messages’ for Trump

Portland Police officers fatally shot a suspect last weekend who was posing as a Secret Service agent, and who was later discovered to be in possession of a shotgun loaded with shells with “threatening messages” written on them against President Donald Trump, Portland Police reported Thursday.

According to police, the suspect, who has not been named, had threatened security officers at a grocery store with a firearm after falsely claiming to be a Secret Service agent. The suspect “pointed a handgun at one of the security officers and pulled the trigger,” but the firearm did not discharge, police said.

The suspect “scuffled” with the security officers before fleeing the scene, but left behind a key piece of evidence, police reported.

“The suspect left behind an instrument case that contained a loaded shotgun,” Portland Police wrote in a statement. “Officers seized the shotgun as evidence. They found threatening messages written on the shotgun shells that specifically named President Donald Trump.”

Police later identified the suspect and executed a search warrant on their apartment, deploying irritant gas munitions to coerce their cooperation. According to police, the suspect exited their apartment, firearm in hand and “pointed a gun” at one officer, police reported.

The suspect was fatally shot by police, and no other injuries were reported.
