With fresh snow possible, some D.C.-area schools to open on a delay Wednesday

Some D.C. area schools systems will open two hours later Wednesday as light snow may fall overnight across a region still cleaning up after the earlier winter storm.

Among the districts announcing a delay is Prince George’s County Public Schools, which will hold classes for the first time since the Jan. 25 storm.

The Capital Weather Gang reports some new snow is possible Tuesday night into the predawn hours Wednesday, possibly producing a coating to an inch. It could cause a few slick spots, but widespread disruptions are not anticipated.

The following districts have announced delays for Wednesday:

  • Alexandria City Public Schools: Two-hour delay; essential employees should report on time if safe to do so.
  • Arlington Public Schools: Two-hour delay; 12-month, essential employees, transportation and food services staff to report on time
  • Charles County Public Schools: Two-hour delay (announced Monday).
  • Fairfax County Public Schools: Two-hour delay; central and school offices to open on time.
  • Fauquier County Public Schools: Two-hour delay; essential personnel to report on time.
  • Loudoun County Public Schools: Two-hour delay Wednesday through Friday; administrative offices to open on time (announced Monday).
  • Manassas City Public Schools: Two-hour delay, no pre-K.
  • Montgomery County Public Schools: Two-hour delay; emergency personnel to report as directed.
  • Prince George’s County Public Schools: Two-hour delay.
  • Prince William County Public Schools: Two-hour delay.
  • Stafford County Public Schools: Two-hour delay; 12-month staff should report on time.

Officials in Anne Arundel County Schools said the district will open on a normal schedules Wednesday barring inclement weather that could affect operations. Meanwhile, classes are canceled for Howard County Public Schools for a scheduled county-wide professional learning day.

This list will be updated as more districts announce plans. Jason Samenow contributed to this report.
