A legal expert flagged a recent court order on Sunday that he said could bring the “Trump-induced darkness” to an end for many immigrant families in America.
On Saturday, a federal judge in Texas ordered President Donald Trump’s administration to release Adrian Conejo Arias and his 5-year-old son Liam, who have been held in Texas since they were detained by immigration agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota, last week. The judge also called Trump the “would-be authoritarian king” that the founders warned about, Politico reported.
Glenn Kirschner, a former federal prosecutor, broke down the federal judge’s short order in a new episode of his “Justice Matters” podcast on Sunday. He described the order as “unique” and “powerful.”
“This inhumane treatment by the Trump administration prompted an outcry both nationally and internationally,” Kirschner said. “But it also prompted something more. a short two-page order from a federal judge in Texas that is as unique as it is powerful. And it’s an order that may prove to be historic when the age of the Trump-induced darkness comes to an end.”
In the order, Judge Fred Biery accused the Trump administration of using America’s “arcane” immigration system to “traumatize children” who seek nothing more than a “modicum of due process.”
Kirschner said he hoped the order would “inspire” Americans to continue pushing back against the Trump administration.
