D.C. Public Schools to open Thursday; some area schools will remain closed

Some D.C.-area schools will remain closed again Thursday

The prolonged cleanup after last weekend’s winter storm will disrupt classes again for some students in the D.C. region Thursday.

Districts have attributed the closures to still lingering icy conditions on some roads and sidewalks as a bitter cold settles in the region.

Many school systems built multiple snow days into their academic calendar, though virtual learning was offered instead of a complete closure Wednesday to students in Alexandria and at some D.C. charters.

Here are announced closings and other schedule changes for Thursday:

  • Alexandria City Public Schools: Virtual learning
  • Arlington County Public Schools: Closed
  • Calvert County Public Schools: Two-hour delay
  • Charles County Public Schools: Closed
  • Culpeper County Public Schools: Closed Thursday and Friday
  • D.C. Public Schools: Two-hour delay on Thursday and Friday
  • Falls Church City Public Schools: two-hour delay
  • Fauquier County Public Schools: Closed; code orange for employees
  • Frederick County Public Schools: Closed
  • Howard County Public Schools: Closed
  • Loudoun County Public Schools: Closed
  • Manassas City Public Schools: Closed
  • Montgomery County Public Schools: Closed; code red for employees
  • Prince George’s County Public Schools: Closed Thursday and Friday; emergency personnel to report
  • Spotsylvania County Schools: Closed; essential personnel report to perform emergency services as necessary
  • Stafford County Public Schools: Closed
  • Prince William County Schools: Two-hour delayed opening
