Top GOP senator mocked after dodging questions on legality of warrantless ICE raids

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) sparked outrage Tuesday after he appeared to feign ignorance when asked whether it’s legal for ICE officers to enter an American’s home without a judicial warrant amid a controversial new enforcement policy that critics say undercuts Fourth Amendment protections. Grassley, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, brushed off the query by saying, “Ask a constitutional lawyer, I’m a farmer,” even as reporting shows internal memos authorize agents to use administrative warrants — not judge-signed warrants — to enter private residences, a shift legal experts have blasted as unconstitutional and reckless amid heightened scrutiny of federal immigration tactics.
