DOJ playing ‘hide the ball’ with ICE shooter evidence — and it will end badly: expert

Former Florida prosecutor Dave Aronson expressed disgust Monday at Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche’s fierce refusal on Fox News to investigate ICE agent Jonathan Ross for shooting and killing unarmed 37-year-old Minnesota mom Renee Nicole Good — and warned it will backfire on the Trump administration.

Speaking with MS NOW’s Jonathan Lemire, Aronson said Blanche’s words and the stance the Department of Justice is taking by ignoring the shooter and instead investigating the victim, her family, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Gov. Tim Walz will open the door to a federal judge intervening.

“As far as the refusal to investigate, I think it will backfire on this administration,” he told the host. “We’re already seeing it — six federal prosecutors in the Minnesota U.S. attorney’s office have resigned in protest.”

“Also, when you refuse to investigate here, it helps the state convince a judge down the line to order the feds to turn over evidence to them, because the only legitimate reason to refuse to share evidence with local prosecutors is to preserve the integrity of the evidence for use in your own prosecution, not to ensure that someone forever evades justice.

“And lastly, playing hide the ball will only hurt the ICE agent’s defense,” he predicted. “He’s going to get indicted, I believe, by the state of Minnesota. Doesn’t he want all the evidence collected by the feds, especially helpful evidence? So I think ultimately, a federal judge will order the DOJ to produce the evidence, and this whole thing is going to backfire on the Trump administration.”
