President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he would be filing a lawsuit against JPMorgan Chase over the unverified claim that banking institutions had discriminated against him in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot in 2021.
Announced in a social media post, Trump’s latest legal threat was framed around his objections to a recent Wall Street Journal report claiming he had offered JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon the job of Federal Reserve chair.
“A front page Article in The Fake News Wall Street Journal states, without any verification, that I offered Jamie Dimon, of JPMorgan Chase, the job of Fed Chairman,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.
“This statement is totally untrue, there was never such an offer and, in fact, I’ll be suing JPMorgan Chase over the next two weeks for incorrectly and inappropriately DEBANKING me after the January 6th Protest, a protest that turned out to be correct for those doing the protesting – The Election was RIGGED!”
Trump has filed an unprecedented number of lawsuits during his second term, often against media outlets he’s alleged had produced unfair coverage of him.
As to Trump’s claim that JPMorgan Chase had been “inappropriately debanking” him in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, Trump has claimed – without evidence – that banks had refused his deposits, including JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America. Both banking institutions have fiercely denied such claims, however.
