A Henrico County grand jury indicted three people this week in connection with the death of a 3-year-old girl who died in June due to drug toxicity, officials said.
Henrico Police arrested the child’s grandmother, Tomeka Nichole Burton, 41, of Henrico, following a grand jury hearing Monday, according to a statement released by police.
Investigators are searching for the girl’s mother, Jomaya Ciara Hunt, 19, and Burton’s partner Harvey Joe Turner, III, 42, both of Henrico, who also were charged in the case.
Police found the girl unconscious and not breathing June 3, after they responded to a call for a medical emergency in the 5400 block of Williamsburg Road. Authorities pronounced the child, who officials did not identify by name, dead at the scene.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner declared the death a homicide due to drug toxicity in September, according to the statement.
Burton and Turner each were indicted on charges of felony murder, two counts of child abuse and two counts of child endangerment, as well as possession of a schedule I or II drug, officials said.
Hunt faces indictments for two counts of child abuse, the statement said.
