‘Another self own’: Trump comment sparks internet rumors of president on Ozempic

President Donald Trump touted Friday his new health care plan, which he dubbed “The Great Health Care Plan” during a press conference from the White House, but his meandering remarks about a “friend” who took the weight-loss drug Ozempic quickly fueled online speculation about whether the president himself was using it.

“A friend of mine [is] a very smart guy, very rich, very powerful man, but he’s very fat, and he took the fat drug – I won’t tell which one. It was Ozempic,” Trump said. “And he went to London on one of his many business trips – he can’t walk across the street but he’s a great businessman.”

Trump went on to share that his “friend” informed him that in New York, the cost of Ozempic was more than $1,000, whereas in London, England, the drug only cost $88. He also noted that the drug did “not work on” his friend.

“He said ‘and in London sir, I pay just a fraction of that.’ I said ‘what are you paying?’” Trump continued. “[He said] $87! I said, ‘well, is it the same drug’ – I know exactly what he was getting at because I’ve… you know… it bothered me for a long time.”

Trump remarks immediately sparked an online frenzy, with many critics questioning whether Trump was actually speaking about himself.

“So he’s saying he took Ozempic and got fatter,” wrote Bluesky user “Clay Potter,” an online political commentator who’s amassed more than 5,200 followers on the social media platform. “Got it.”

“Snap. No wonder Noem asked Trump to lower [the] cost of Wegovy and Ozempic,” wrote another, Bluesky user “Trkgator,” who’s bio says they’re a military veteran and anti-facist advocate, to their more than 5,100 followers. “Makes perfect sense.”

And others, like Bluesky user “Chuck,” a voiceover artist who’s amassed more than 1,400 followers, argued Trump’s remarks were definitive proof the president had taken Ozempic.

“Ok, so now we know that Trump took Ozempic,” they wrote in a social media post on Bluesky.

No reporting exists to suggest Trump has taken Ozempic, a GLP-1 weight-loss drug which, along with similar drugs, is now taken about 1 in 8 Americans. But Trump’s mockery of his “fat” friend, coupled with his eyebrow-raising remarks about being “bothered for a long time,” led some, like Bluesky user “KellyFromespo,” a frequent political commentator with more than 200 followers, to describe the president’s remarks as “another self own
