Chipotle had a harsh response to the hedge fund manager and billionaire Trump donor who donated $10,000 to the fundraiser for ICE agent Jonathan Ross, who gunned down 37-year-old mother Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis last week.
The company released a statement in the wake of the donation from Bill Ackman after calls to boycott the company swirled online, Newsweek reported.
“Bill Ackman is not affiliated with Chipotle,” the company wrote on Threads Monday.
Ackman confirmed that he made the donation and shared the link to the GoFundMe for Ross.
“I am big believer in our legal principal that one is innocent until proven guilty. To that end, I supported the @gofundme for Jonathan Ross and intended to similarly support the GoFundMe for Renee Good’s family (her GoFundMe was closed by the time I attempted to provide support),” Ackman wrote on X.
“The whole situation is a tragedy. An officer doing his best to do his job, and a protester who likely did not intend to kill the officer but whose actions in a split second led to her death. Our country is stronger if we work together to resolve the complex issues that are tearing us apart,” he said.
Ackman, who endorsed President Donald Trump in the 2024 election, is a prominent hedge fund manager and activist investor who founded Pershing Square Capital Management, known for its high-profile campaigns to influence corporate governance and strategy at major companies through significant equity stakes and public pressure.
Ackman has been involved in numerous high-stakes corporate battles, including campaigns against companies like Herbalife, Valeant Pharmaceuticals, and others, while also becoming a vocal political commentator on various issues ranging from education reform to recent political developments.
In September 2016, Ackman purchased a 9.9% stake in Chipotle for about $1 billion, which at the time made his hedge fund firm one of the largest Chipotle stakeholders, according to Newsweek. He gradually sold off his shares and in November 2025 confirmed he had sold all the firm’s remaining shares.
