Couple makes shocking discovery in attic of new home — sparking fierce debate over ownership: ‘That is not right’

Nothing is more exciting for a young couple than embarking on a new chapter in life together.

That’s exactly what happened to Illinois resident Kaitlyn Ostolaza and her fiancé, who had excitedly purchased a home together the previous summer.

Busy moving in and getting situated, it wasn’t until a few months later that Ostolaza discovered the home had a secret attic, thanks to her father. However, what she found up there was even more shocking.

After finally accessing the attic using a makeshift rope, since the string to pull down the stairs was missing, the family found random items most likely left behind by previous owners, such as pool floaties and broken tennis rackets.

The most shocking discovery? A wedding dress neatly folded in its designated box.

While this head-scratching discovery was definitely unexpected, it’s what Ostolaza decided to do with it that sent social media into a frenzy, after she posted about the hidden wedding dress on TikTok.

The Post reached out to Ostolaza for comment.

In a video, with almost 3 million views and overlay text that reads: “POV you bought a house with your fiancé and find a wedding dress in the attic,” the excited bride-to-be is seen opening a carefully packaged vintage wedding dress.

This is not the previous owners wedding dress. Hoping to use something left behind as my something borrowed for our wedding 💕🏹 I just know whoever wore this dress looked amazing in it. The train is everything

She then takes out the long-sleeved, lace gown and holds it up to herself, clearly excited to use this dress in some way, as her caption read: “This is not the previous owners wedding dress. Hoping to use something left behind as my something borrowed for our wedding. I just know whoever wore this dress looked amazing in it. The train is everything.”

Ostolaza tried to find the source of the dress by contacting the previous homeowners but to no avail, as explained by the Daily Mail.

“I don’t know what my plan is for now,” she told the outlet. “I really like the idea of repurposing it into a reception dress or robe to use on the day of the wedding.”

Yet, the hundreds of commenters on the viral video had the opposite reaction to the found dress.

“You know this is how horror movies start aye?”

“Am I the only one that is scared it was left there because it’s cursed? don’t put it on!”

“Am i the only who yelled ‘omg why did you open it?’ it was preserved.”

“You need to find out who it belonged to that is not right using it.”

This soon-to-be-bride isn’t the only one looking to turn something old into new.

A California bride remodernized her grandmother’s wedding gown into a two-piece set for her rehearsal dinner dress.

“The dress is about 50 years old, and there are pieces of it where my grandmother and her mother-in-law stitched beading into it,” Dalena told The Post.

“I knew she was going to be in total shock and I knew she was going to love it no matter what I did to it,” she continued.
