Liberal: Gender Ideology Damns Democrats
Nothing has been more jarring than “the incorporation of transgender ‘rights’ into the left’s 21st century project,” argues The Liberal Patriot’s Ruy Teixeira. The left in Europe and America have “embraced the ideological agenda of trans activists who believe gender identity trumps biological sex,” leading to harmful “medicalization” of gender-nonconforming children and other “gender-affirming care” and new pronouns to disguise the “contradiction between biological sex and the dictates of gender identity.” What “a far cry from the left’s original conception of women’s rights and sexual equality”! Democrats’ support of “gender ideology has become a massive political liability”; it tells voters that Democrats are disconnected from the “real world of ordinary Americans.” If they want to be “trusted,” Dems need “a course correction toward biology realism.”
Energy beat: Europe’s Climate Backlash
“It took a while, but Europeans are finally waking up to the ramifications of what their climate-obsessed policies have wrought on their industries, environment, and standard of living,” cheers Craig Rucker at The Hill. They realize those “policies, prohibitions, and mandates” were spurred by “faulty, alarmist forecasts of climate cataclysms and utopian visions of ‘clean, sustainable renewable energy.’ ” Turns out renewable energy has hidden costs that mean “much higher electricity prices, blackouts, and economic disruption.” “Energy-intensive companies and industries” are “shrinking or being exported from Europe,” plus “thousands of high-paying jobs are disappearing.” Ruling elites still claim, “Europe’s high energy prices aren’t the fault of policymakers or the green transition.” But they “chose” to make cheaper fossil fuels and nuclear energy “inaccessible.”
From the right: Bogus ‘Harm’ of Maduro Capture
“Warnings” that the capture of Nicolás Maduro emboldens China’s Xi Jinping in regard to Taiwan are overblown, explains Commentary’s Seth Mandel. Nothing’s ever suggested “Beijing simply copies the behavior it sees in Washington,” nor is the US “causing Taiwan any extra trouble” by tying our hands “in a situation in which we would otherwise have intervened.” Ultimately, “no new lines have been drawn”; indeed, the main conclusion to draw is that “American power projection turns out to be popular,” as is the idea that “the United States has obligations far outside its own borders.” The public still “wants to see more material support” for Ukraine and the strikes on Iran “won majority support,” too.
Conservative: Minnesota Dems Inciting Violence
Tim Walz said he “mobilized” the Minnesota National Guard to “protect Minnesotans from rogue ICE agents” in the wake of the fatal Minneapolis ICE-involved shooting, groans the Federalist’s John Daniel Davidson. “Taken at face value,” Walz issued a “threat to use the Guard for an anti-federal insurrection.” If he doesm “it would be an open act of sedition.” Mayor Jacob Frey called the shooting s “murder.” This “maximal, incendiary rhetoric” is “tantamount to begging for riots and mob violence” — and all “because they don’t want the Trump administration to enforce existing immigration law.” While rioting must be suppressed, “something must also be done about the Democrat politicians who are inciting violence and, in Walz’s case, flirting with insurrection.”
Libertarian: To Make Trump Deregulation Last
“It looks like the second Trump administration is off to a decent start in keeping its January 2025 promise” to slim down federal regulations, smiles Reason’s J.D. Tuccille. The Competitive Enterprise Institute’s Clyde Wayne Crews reports: “While Biden’s 2024 Federal Register totaled 106,109 pages — the highest in history — the 2025 volume closed the year with ‘only’ 61,461 pages.” That’s welcome news, Tuccille argues, since “regulation isn’t just an annoyance — it’s a prosperity killer.” But beware: These “deregulatory achievements remain vulnerable in the current term,” since Trump has relied heavily on executive orders to slash red tape. Fact is, “a lasting deregulatory legacy requires getting Congress on board so that reform can be enacted into law and put beyond the whims of presidents to come.”
