President Donald Trump made some comments during an interview on Fox Newsthat were so “undignified” that it left some observers stunned.
Fox News host Sean Hannity interviewed the president on Thursday evening, a conversation that covered topics ranging from foreign policy to the economy. Hannity asked Trump about his operation to arrest Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro and his wife last weekend, and whether he would consider supporting Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado, a Venezuelan activist, as the country’s new leader.
Earlier this year, Machado dedicated her peace prize to Trump. Hannity also said she has told him that she wants to give Trump her Nobel Peace Prize for his work to “liberate” her country.
Trump’s answer stunned people watching the interview.
“I’ve heard she wants to do that,” Trump said. “It would be a great honor. You know, I’ve put out eight wars. Eight and a quarter, because Thailand and Cambodia started going at it again.”
Observers shared their reactions on social media.
“What are we even doing here,” lawyer Aaron Parans posted on X.
“This is so beyond humiliating for the United States,” Democratic analyst Harry Sisson posted on X. “Trump won’t support Machado in Venezuela unless she gives him the Nobel Peace prize she won. HE IS A CHILD.”
“A U.S presidency so low and undignified that dog treats and baby pacifiers are enough to get his attention and ego under control,” analyst Evaristus Odinikaeze posted on X.
“This is so humiliating for everyone involved,” MeidasTouch posted on X.
