A Republican Congressman said he “has some questions” about the “disturbing images” released of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shooting and killing a U.S. citizen on Wednesday.
An unidentified ICE agent shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in South Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Wednesday morning as Good tried to leave the scene of an immigration raid in her car. The Trump administration was quick to say the agent was acting in self-defense, although video footage and witness testimony seem to contradict that narrative.
Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL), a Trump ally, joined CNN’s Jake Tapper on “The Lead” to discuss the shooting.
“I have questions about this one,” Gimenez said. “And I try to give police officers the benefit of the doubt whenever possible. But those are disturbing images, and I do have questions about this incident.”
The shooting occurred at a politically sensitive time for the Trump administration. Most recently, the administration has received pushback from the international community for Trump’s capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro and his posturing toward Greenland.
Trump has also faced significant criticism for his handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, documents that he is required to release by law.
