Department of Homeland Secretary Kristi Noem dropped a “fascinating” nugget about the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good in South Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Wednesday, according to a legal expert.
Noem travelled to Minneapolis to give a press conference following Good’s killing, where she alleged that Good was trying to incite the officers and had “weaponized” her vehicle against them. Witnesses said the agent who shot Good seemed “spooked” and was swiftly put into a car and taken away from the scene. Noem also revealed some information about the agent who shot Good that caught the attention of CNN’s chief law enforcement analyst, John Miller.
“One of the fascinating things we learned from the Secretary of Homeland Security today was that the agent who fired the shots in June had been rammed by another vehicle, [she] claims, and dragged for 50 yards,” Miller said.
Noem likely included that nugget about the officer who shot Good to make the case that he acted out a trauma response from his service. Miller threw cold water on that explanation as well.
“We haven’t isolated what incident that was or where it was, and we are aware from past descriptions of encounters with people in vehicles and ICE that they have a tendency at DHS, at least on the headquarters level, to exaggerate the occurrence,” he said.
