The speculation began mere seconds after the engagement announcement dropped on Instagram in late August. What would the wedding between two incredibly famous people — the pop star Taylor Swift and the football player Travis Kelce — look like?
While concrete details remain scarce at the moment, both stars have helped stoke public curiosity. Subtle comments made by the couple in recent months have sent fans theorizing about everything from the wedding party to the ceremony — which some are likening to an American royal wedding — to the date and the location and the attire.
When did the pair get engaged?
The couple announced their engagement on Instagram in a joint post on Aug. 26, 2025. “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” read the caption, which included a firecracker emoji. (That’s pictograph for Taylor and Travis, or TNT for short.) The post consisted of a series of photos, including Mr. Kelce on bended knee before Ms. Swift in a garden full of flowers.
Ed Kelce, Travis Kelce’s father, discussed the couple in a televised interview following the announcement and said the engagement had happened a few weeks earlier at a garden in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
When did they start dating?
Mr. Kelce attended a performance of Ms. Swift’s Eras Tour in Kansas City in July 2023 and later said he was disappointed when he failed to meet the singer after the show. He retold that story on an episode of “New Heights,” the podcast he hosts with his brother, the football player Jason Kelce, that same month. Ms. Swift later told Time magazine that she thought Mr. Kelce was “metal as hell” for putting her “on blast” on the podcast, and the pair started “hanging out” shortly after the episode aired. Their first public appearance came that fall, when Ms. Swift was spotted cheering him on at a Kansas City Chiefs game. Since then, she has become a regular fixture at Mr. Kelce’s games, and he even made a cameo appearance onstage during a stop on the Eras Tour in London in June 2024.
What about the ring?
The rock, which Ms. Swift can be seen flashing in the engagement announcement, was designed by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry in New York. Ms. Lubeck specializes in hand-engraved jewelry featuring natural stones. In Ms. Swift’s case, the stone appears to be a bezel-set diamond on a yellow gold band. Speaking with The New York Times, Ann Grimmett, the vice president for merchandising at Jared Jewelers, estimated the diamond to be somewhere between seven and nine carats and could have cost anywhere from $250,000 to $500,000.
Ms. Swift said she had sent a video of Ms. Lubeck’s work to Mr. Kelce over a year before he proposed.
“When I saw the ring, I was like, ‘I know who made that, I know who made that!’ And also, ‘You listen to me!’” Ms. Swift said on the British radio show Heart Breakfast.
Has the couple set a wedding date?
Ms. Swift is known for keeping details about her personal life private. On an episode of “The Graham Norton Show” in October 2025, Mr. Norton asked Ms. Swift if the wedding would be in 2026.
“Oh, you’ll know,” Ms. Swift replied, dodging the question and telling Mr. Norton he would be invited but that she was focused on promoting her latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” at that time.
Still, she was “excited,” Ms. Swift said.
“I know it’s going to be fun to plan because I think the only stressful weddings are the ones where you have a small amount and people are on the bubble and you have to evaluate or assess your relationship with them to see if they should be there,” she said. “I’m not going to do that.” She joked that she would be inviting “anyone I’ve ever talked to.”
“I shouldn’t have said any of that,” she added.
I heard a rumor from a friend of my mother’s sister’s hairdresser that the wedding is happening in June in Rhode Island. Is that true?
While the couple has not confirmed a wedding date or location, there have been rumors that they may get married in Rhode Island, which has long been a part of Ms. Swift’s personal geography. She owns a home in the Watch Hill neighborhood of Westerly, known as Holiday House, which she purchased in 2013 for $17.75 million in a reported all-cash deal.
In 2020, she released a song, “The Last Great American Dynasty,” about the wild life of the home’s original owner, the oil heiress Rebekah Harkness. Ms. Swift has also been known to throw celebrity-filled parties at the estate.
Right down the road from her home is Ocean House, a swanky seaside hotel that is known to host weddings, which has surfaced repeatedly in online and social media speculations.
Stephanie Leavitt, a spokeswoman for Ocean House, noting in an emailed statement provided to The Times that the venue “prides itself on being rooted in client confidentiality.”
“Rhode Island has some of the best wedding venues in the world, just saying,” the state’s Gov. Daniel McKee wrote on X following the engagement announcement.
What has the groom said?
In a January 2025 episode of his podcast, Mr. Kelce and his brother responded to a listener who asked the hosts to give their opinion on fall weddings, which could conflict with football games — both for fans and players. “I actually don’t know people who have gotten married in the fall,” Mr. Kelce said. “All the weddings I’ve been to, and all my friends do it in the summer.”
“I just got to figure out a football game first,” Mr. Kelce told Jimmy Fallon of the celebration on a September episode of “New Heights.” He joked that planning a wedding would be easy, “compared to figuring out how to catch a football,” using several expletives.
Mr. Fallon also asked about music for the event, inquiring if the couple would hire a D.J.
“We’re live music kind of people,” Mr. Kelce said.
Any idea who will be in the wedding party?
Ms. Swift has already served as a bridesmaid several times. In 2021, she was part of the bridal party when the writer and actor Lena Dunham married Luis Felber. She has also been a bridesmaid for two childhood friends, Britany LaManna and Abigail Anderson Berard, about whom she penned the song “Fifteen.”
Mr. Kelce was a groomsman for his teammate Patrick Mahomes in 2022. He served as best man in his brother Jason’s 2018 wedding.
“Hopefully, I’m the best man. We’ll see,” Jason Kelce said of his potential wedding day role on the podcast “Bussin’ with the Boys” in September 2025. “Trav has a lot of friends, I’m just hoping to get the opportunity.”
Do we know what Ms. Swift will be wearing?
When it comes to what she might wear on her wedding day, the pop star has no shortage of options. Ms. Swift and Mr. Kelce both donned ensembles by Ralph Lauren in their engagement announcement photos. Mr. Lauren designed the wedding attire for Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco in September 2025 and the gown for Jennifer Lopez when she married Ben Affleck in 2022.)
On her latest tour, Ms. Swift wore costumes by many designers, including Vivian Westwood, who designed the minidress the singer Charli XCX wore for her courthouse wedding in 2025.
