“I do like a really good oversized trouser,” Fernando Luna, 26, said when asked about his favorite things to wear. He then mentioned the crucifix around his neck. “Veneda Carter,” he said, noting the maker. “I got this three years ago, and now it’s like my everyday.”
He was walking through the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan on a Wednesday evening in mid-December when other elements of his ensemble — his eyeglasses and his two-tone loafers — caught my attention. While talking about his outfit, he noted that he worked in fashion public relations in New York. “Pretty much what I always wanted to do,” he said of his job.
His approach to style, he explained, was largely to keep it simple, something he has done by filling his wardrobe with denim and neutrals. “Stuff that’s everyday and transitional,” he said, adding that he is guided by a certain principle: “Just making sure you’re comfortable with what you’re wearing.”
