‘The Pitt,’ Plus 10 Things to Watch on TV This Week

Two anticipated returns

“The Pitt,” a show that follows the goings-on of an E.R. in Pittsburgh and stars Noah Wyle (of “E.R.” fame), is back for a second season. The first installment was a hit and was touted by doctors and nurses as an exceptionally accurate portrayal of an emergency room. The show also took home the Emmy Award for best drama, and Wyle won for best actor, 26 years after he was last nominated for his role in “E.R.” This season will take place over the course of a Fourth of July weekend — meaning 10 months have passed since Season 1. Sepideh Moafi will join the cast as Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi. The season’s 15 episodes will drop weekly until the finale in April. Begins streaming Thursday at 9 p.m. on HBO Max.

Why would Donna Kelce (the mother of the football playing brothers Jason and Travis Kelce), Colton Underwood (the former “Bachelor”), Rob Rausch (the lovable hunk from “Love Island USA”) and Tara Lipinski (the Olympic figure skater) ever be in a room together? They are all contestants on the fourth season of “The Traitors,” the reality competition show hosted by Alan Cumming. Each season, Cumming (secretly) names certain people “traitors,” and it is the job of the “faithfuls” to figure out who they are and eliminate them. The first three episodes will drop at once; the rest will air weekly. Begins streaming Thursday at 9 p.m. on Peacock.

Searching for family members and priceless heirlooms

What can you find at antique conventions around the country? Perhaps a first edition of “The Hobbit” worth $100,000, vintage Ms. Pac-Man memorabilia or German candy containers. Those and other collectibles will be assessed on the 30th season of “Antiques Roadshow,” which is starting back up. Other stops include Old Sturbridge Village, Mass.; the Georgia State Railroad Museum; and the Alaska Native Heritage Center. Monday at 8 p.m. on PBS. (Check local listings.)

After watching people learn about their heirlooms, you can watch celebrities learn about their ancestries in “Finding Your Roots.” Henry Louis Gates Jr. is back to host the 12th season of the show, which will feature Spike Lee, Lizzo and Brittney Griner among others. Tuesday at 8 p.m. on PBS. (Check local listings.)

A comedian and a musician walk onto a TV set …

In 2025 Bruce Springsteen recorded his performance of the entirety of his 1982 album “Nebraska” for an expanded box edition. Now, “Bruce Springsteen: Nebraska Live” is coming to small screens. Streaming Wednesday on Hulu.

Marcello Hernández has played plenty of different and goofy characters as a cast member of “Saturday Night Live.” In his debut Netflix stand-up special, “Marcello Hernandez: American Boy,” he gets to be himself. The special was filmed in Miami — his hometown — and he talks about his upbringing as a son of Cuban and Dominican immigrants. Begins streaming Wednesday on Netflix.

Three thrillers

Based on the novel Baby Doll by Hollie Overton, the six-part series “Girl Taken” follows the twin sisters Lily and Abby (played by Tallulah Evans and Delphi Evans) and chronicles Lily’s kidnapping by a local teacher (Alfie Allen). Following her release after years of abuse, the sisters and their mother, Eve (Jill Halfpenny), have to contend with the horrible events that happened and figure out how to move forward. Begins streaming Thursday on Paramount +.

“Girl Taken” isn’t the only thriller series adapted from a book releasing this week. “His & Hers,” based on the novel by Alice Feeney, stars Tessa Thompson as the reporter Anna Andrews and Jon Bernthal as Detective Jake Harper, both of whom are trying to solve a murder in their sleepy Georgia hometown. To make things more complicated, Anna and Jack are married, estranged and suspicious of each other’s involvement in the case. As indicated in the title, the story is told from both perspectives. Begins streaming Thursday on Netflix.

In another British thriller series, “Cold Water,” Andrew Lincoln plays John, a man who moves his family from London to a small town in Scotland after a concerning incident back home. There, they move in next to Tommy (Ewen Bremner), who is charming, but John suspects there is something sinister going on with him. Begins streaming Friday on Paramount +.

The start of awards season

Just as the new year begins, so does awards season, with the Golden Globes. Nikki Glaser is set to host, as titles including “One Battle After Another,” “Sinners” and “Hamnet” compete in the film categories, and “Severance,” “The White Lotus” and “The Pitt” compete in television. This year, the show will feature a new category: best podcast. Airing on Sunday at 8 p.m. on CBS; streaming on Paramount+.
