NEW YORK — Deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro has been transferred by helicopter to Manhattan, where he and his wife, Cilia Flores, are set to be arraigned at noon at the U.S. District Court on charges that they enriched themselves through drug trafficking. Venezuela’s future — and Washington’s role in it — remains uncertain after Maduro was removed by U.S. forces. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States would wield its leverage to pressure the country’s leaders, while President Donald Trump said the United States is “in charge.”
