An MS NOW report on Donald Trump’s saber-rattling at Iran led to a moment of levity when national security editor David Rohde made a glib remark about the president sleeping “alone.”
Ensconced at his Mar-a-Lago resort for the holidays with his wife Melania, the president was up and posting on Truth Social at 3AM, when he threatened the Iranian government with military intervention over its mistreatment of protesters rebelling against conditions within the country.
Trump wrote, “If Iran shots (sic) and violently kills peaceful protesters, which is their custom, the United States of America will come to their rescue. We are locked and loaded and ready to go. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J.TRUMP.”
Rohde, who was kidnapped by members of the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2008, attempted to convey the seriousness of the president’s threat.
Host Laura Barrón-López prompted him with, “What is the process that the Trump administration is following in Iran? What is the strategy?”
“You have a president of the United States, sending out a tweet at 3 AM,” he began. “You know, there should be meetings about how different agencies can help these heroic Iranians, not just sort of threats at 3 AM from an American president who, you know, I assume is alone in his bedroom in Florida.”
That led to an off-camera laugh from Barrón-López who repeated, “Alone in his bedroom indeed, posting things at 3 A.M.”
