Kathy Griffin said she “accidentally” fell in love with a man more than 40 years younger than her.
The comedian, 65, revealed her secret romance with a 23-year-old man following her divorce from her second husband, Randy Bick.
Griffin said that she felt her much younger beau really saw her for who she was.
“I accidentally fell in love with a 23-year-old. Because of his age, he didn’t have the usual sexism, misogyny, and biases that guys my age tend to have,” she wrote in an essay for the Cut, which was published Wednesday.

Griffin said she felt extremely comfortable with him, even though it sounded “corny” and “lame.”
“It was nice to know that my heart could still feel like that in my 60s, and it was nice to have the universe show me a guy that I really got a kick out of but also respected,” she shared.
“I thought he was smart,” she added. “I thought he could roll in different worlds. It sounds cliché, and maybe he was an old soul, but I don’t know, we just clicked.”
Still, Griffin knew their romance couldn’t last, and felt she had too much “baggage” for him.

She said she had to “set him free,” even though he told her he didn’t want kids and could be with her forever.
“I really was in love with him,” she stressed. “He touched my heart.”
“We gave it a shot anyway, and we both went with it for a while, and then it came time to go,” she continued. “He made me feel sexy and special and smart and funny. It had a lot of the elements of what I think would’ve made a real, lasting relationship.”
Griffin freely admitted to being a “cougar,” and shared that she hadn’t dated guys her age since she was in her 30s.

“I’ve only been asked out by younger guys,” she explained. “I kind of am a cougar, which to me just means you have the freedom to choose the person that you want as opposed to the age bracket that society tells you is the only option for you.”
Griffin noted she has always been honest about her age on dating apps.
“I put 64 on my profile, and when I went on those dates, every one of them was at least 20 years younger,” she shared. “What am I gonna do? I can’t let this bangin’ body go to waste.”
Griffin settled her divorce from Bick — who’s 18 years younger than her — in January.

Last October, the “My Life on the D-List” star exclusively told Page Six that the split had devastated her.
“The divorce is what’s kicking my ass mentally,” she shared at the time. “I thought I was going to be with this guy forever. I’m heartbroken, I admit it.”
She added, “I just didn’t think I’d be alone at this stage of the game, but hey, that’s on me. And I guess, I obviously have [to take] full responsibility.”
