Lucien Laviscount has traveled to the Dominican Republic, Dubai, London, Los Angeles, New York City and Paris, and that’s just over the past month.
“I’ve been on the road a lot,” Laviscount, 33, said in a phone interview from Dubai, where he was on a shoot for GQ Middle East, which named him one of its men of the year. “But all for exciting stuff.”
There’s “Emily in Paris,” for one, the highly bingeable Netflix series about a young American woman who moves to France and quickly becomes enmeshed in a life of luxury and romantic entanglements, including one with the British banker Alfie, played by Laviscount, who grew up in England.
The show’s fifth season — which relocates the action to Rome, and later Venice — began streaming on Netflix this month. With a surprising twist in store for Alfie.
“I got the first script, and it took me two or three days to process what was going on. I think it’s going to shock a lot of people,” said Laviscount, who is back as a series regular after playing a smaller role in Season 4.
He shared the game he played with his “Emily in Paris” castmates, the condiment he always carries with him and why he owns more than a dozen Yankees caps. These are edited excerpts from the conversation.
Yorkshire Tea Bags
These have been a staple in my life since I was young. Being away from loved ones and friends can get lonely sometimes, but it’s like a big hug in a mug.
Amazon Fire Stick
I throw it into the hotel TV, and I can sit back and jump straight back into whatever I was watching. I’m deep into “Black Rabbit” again. And the “Frankenstein” movie was phenomenal.
My Tumi Backpack
It was a gift from a friend. It’s black, nondescript, goes under the radar. I’ve used it every day for the past five years or so. It carries way more weight than it was meant to carry. If I’m on set, it’s got my scripts in it. It’s durable. It kind of fits in with who I am. It’s a bit wanky, but I do have my initials on it.
Bentley Continental GT
I grew up in a small, working-class town in England called Burnley, and my family didn’t have much. When I was 8, I saw a Bentley pull up, and I was like, “Whoa, that’s cool. I want one of them one day.” This year, Bentley reached out about partnering with me as a global ambassador, and now I get to drive my dream car.
Perudo
It’s an old-school pirates’ game. If you’ve ever watched “Pirates of the Caribbean,” they have this game with Davy Jones — they have some dice under a cup, and they throw it down — it’s that. It’s one of my favorite games to teach new people. You get to see a bit more of someone than they’d probably like to let you see. It’s a great way to get to know someone. I got the cast, especially Ashley Park and Samuel Arnold, playing this season, and they’re hooked. Everyone got a set for their wrap gift.
Leica Point and Shoot Camera
The idea of capturing memories for me is really important, but I don’t want to have to pull my phone out to take pictures, especially when I’m in a moment with friends. I don’t want to see the notifications come up. So it’s a great way to be in the moment, but, at the same time, capture that moment. I have a playback every six months of what I’ve been up to and catalog them. It’s a really nice way to keep track while I’m on this journey, to see the progression.
Tommy Hilfiger Beige Trousers
They’re slightly high-waisted, which I love. They’re kind of effortlessly chic. You can throw them on with absolutely anything and feel confident.
Chatting With People on the Golf Course
I get to have conversations with people I’d never talk to otherwise. Yesterday, I met this 80-year-old gentleman and a 73-year-old lady, and we went out for two hours and hit some balls, and I found out about them and their lives. I don’t think there are many sports where you get to hear about people’s lives in a situation where they wouldn’t normally open up.
Colman’s English Mustard
It’s a little taste of home when I’m away. I carry a big glass jar of it with me wherever I go.
Yankees Caps
You can’t go wrong with a Yankees hat. New York has a huge place in my heart. I spend a lot of time there and have made some incredible friends over the years. I have four of each color — four black, four navy blue, four brown. I use a specific one for the gym and for golf, and then I have one I wear if I’m going out in the evening. When they do get a little bit too popped out, I’ll get rid of them and refresh. I love a fresh cap.
