A guide to the memorable cast of ‘Marty Supreme’

In “Marty Supreme,” Timothée Chalamet portrays Marty Mauser, a ping pong-playing hustler in 1950s New York City, who encounters a multitude of colorful characters as he navigates his turbulent life.

To embody these characters, director Josh Safdie enlists a diverse array of celebrities, including veteran actors, internet celebrities, NBA stars, a high-wire artist, and two legendary directors.

“Marty Supreme” is now playing in theaters.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Who does she play in the movie? Kay Stone is a legendary actor and socialite who is romantically involved with Marty.

How do you know her? The Oscar winner has starred in countless memorable movies, including “Seven,” “Shakespeare in Love,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” and as Pepper Potts in the MCU.

Fran Drescher

Who does she play in the movie? Marty’s mom, Rebecca, has a fractured relationship with her son.

How do you know her? Drescher is a two-time Emmy-nominated actor best known for playing the lead character Fran Fine in the hit 1990s TV series “The Nanny.”

Odessa A’zion

Who does she play in the movie? Rachel, a married woman who has an affair with Marty.

How do you know her? Like Julia Fox before her in “Uncut Gems,” Safdie strikes gold again with casting a little-known ingenue. She previously played influencer Tallulah on the HBO show “I Love LA.”

Tyler, the Creator

Who does he play in the movie? Wally, a taxi driver, plays ping pong with Marty.

How do you know him? He’s a two-time Grammy-winning artist.

Kevin O’Leary

Who does he play in the movie? Milton Rockwell, the wealthy husband of Kay Stone, who wants to set up a match in Japan between Marty and his rival, Koto Endo.

How do you know him? O’Leary is known best for playing one of the celebrity investors on the reality series “Shark Tank.”

Abel Ferrara

Who does he play in the movie? Ezra, a gangster Marty gets entangled with after losing his dog.

How do you know him? The films he directed in the early 1990s, such as “King of New York” and “Bad Lieutenant,” are landmark works that have heavily influenced Safdie.

Isaac Mizrahi

Who does he play in the movie? Merle, Kay Stone’s publicist.

How do you know him? A celebrity fashion designer who has dressed everyone from Nicole Kidman to Sarah Jessica Parker.

Koto Kawaguchi

Who does he play in the movie? Koto Endo, Marty’s biggest rival in table tennis.

How do you know him? A table tennis champion.

Sandra Bernhard

Who does she play in the movie? Judy, a friend of Marty’s mom, Rebecca.

How do you know her? A famed stand-up comedian in the 1970s, she went on to star in Martin Scorsese’s “The King of Comedy,” played Nancy on the 1990s “Roseanne” show, and most recently played nurse Cecily on “Severance.”

Naomi Fry

Who does she play in the movie? Kay Stone’s assistant.

How do you know her? She’s a writer at The New Yorker who covers pop culture.

Kemba Walker

Who does he play in the movie? A member of the legendary Harlem Globetrotters basketball team, who Marty tours the world with, doing ping pong tricks.

How do you know him? Walker was a four-time NBA all-star who played on the Charlotte Hornets, Boston Celtics, and New York Knicks.

Tracy McGrady

Who does he play in the movie? He also plays a member of the Globetrotters.

How do you know him? He’s a seven-time NBA All-Star and two-time scoring champion who played on the Toronto Raptors and Houston Rockets. McGrady was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2017.

Penn Jilette

Who does he play in the movie? Hoff, a farmer who encounters Marty.

How do you know him? A magician and comedian known best for his work as half of the magic team Penn & Teller.

David Mamet

Who does he play in the movie? Glenn, the stage director of Kay Stone’s play.

How do you know him? Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “Speed-the-Plow.” He went on to write the screenplays for classics like “The Untouchables” and “Wag the Dog.” He also directed “Homicide” and “Heist.”

John Catsimatidis

Who does he play in the movie? Christopher, the father of Dion, is Marty’s associate. Marty is trying to get Christopher to finance his new orange ping pong ball.

How do you know him? The billionaire businessman who owns grocery chains Gristedes and D’Agostino Supermarkets.

George Gervin

Who does he play in the movie? Lawrence, the owner of the table tennis club Marty frequents.

How do you know him? NBA legend nicknamed “The Iceman,” he played for the San Antonio Spurs and the Chicago Bulls. In 2021, the NBA named him one of the 75 greatest players in its history.

Ted Williams

Who does he play in the movie? Ted, who works at Lawrence’s table tennis club.

How do you know him? Known as “The Man with the Golden Voice,” he became a viral sensation when he was homeless, and his vocal talents were captured in a 2011 YouTube video.

Fred Hechinger

Who does he play in the movie? The stage actor who works with Kay Stone in her play.

How do you know him? He played Quinn in season 1 of “The White Lotus” and the Roman emperor Caracalla in “Gladiator II.”

Philippe Petit

Who does he play in the movie? The master of ceremonies during one of Marty’s stints performing alongside the Harlem Globetrotters overseas.

How do you know him? Petit is a renowned high-wire artist who, in 1974, walked on a high-wire between the World Trade Center Twin Towers, a feat depicted in the Oscar-winning 2008 documentary “Man on Wire.”

Luke Manley

Who does he play in the movie? Dion, who creates the orange ping pong balls Marty hopes will become popular once he makes it big in table tennis.

How do you know him? Safdie is a die-hard New York Knicks fan and spotted Manley after he began posting his opinions about the team through his handle @FatrickEwing. Manley also found fame coming in third place on Barstool Idol in 2022.
