Former Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger (IL) called out the Trump administration for waiting until the week of the Christmas holiday to release files from the Jeffrey Epstein case — even though the documents were required to be shared with the public earlier.
“So you guys may be wondering why it is that they are releasing some of the Epstein files today, you know, Christmas Eve, and tomorrow, Christmas Eve. And I’ll tell you a very simple reason, because this is like day one in politics stuff that you learn,” Kinzinger explained on Tuesday. “When you want to bury bad news, when you don’t want it to get much coverage or when you want it to get like as little coverage as possible, you dump it on a holiday.”
“And if you can do it on Christmas or the day before Christmas, that’s perfect because the news will cover it, but most people aren’t watching the news,” he continued. “And so then when people start paying attention again, then the, probably in this case, Trump will say, well, that’s old news.”
“And so that’s what you’re seeing right now.”
Kinzinger noted that some of the most recent documents “implicated Donald Trump.”
“In fact, it was so bad that, and I won’t rehash all of it here because you can find it in other places, but so bad that the Department of Justice put out a statement saying, hey, just so you know, here’s the paraphrase, just so you know, there’s a whole bunch of bad stuff. But it’s all fake, right?” he said. “But my guess is, you know, around the holidays here is when the worst Donald Trump stuff’s going to come out because not to mention, by the way, the incredible redactions.”
“Nobody involved in this should have a right to privacy if you’re an abuser,” he added. “But expect the worst stuff to come out now. This is how politicians do it. Put the worst stuff out on the holiday.”
