A D.C. police officer was struck by a vehicle and injured Tuesday night on Interstate 695, the police said.
The officer was struck about 10:10 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the freeway, east of the Third Street Tunnel, the police said.
The officer’s condition could not be learned immediately. No names were given.
After being struck, the officer was taken to a hospital for treatment. The vehicle that struck the officer remained on the scene, the police said.
No detailed information was available on how the crash occurred.
It was not clear why the officer was on the highway.
Investigators from the Major Crash Investigations Unit were on their way to the scene.
