The distraught dad of a disturbed 29-year-old Queens man who was fatally shotby NYPD cops while wielding a box-cutter early Sunday fumed hours later over witnessing his son’s death.

Kevin Fray, 51, the father of slain Chez Frey, was seen on surveillance footage obtained by The Post growing upset in a local deli around 10 a.m. as he recalled seeing his son shot in the apartment building where the family lived in Far Rockaway.

The dad had earlier been briefly handcuffed after the shooting.

Police initially responded to a 911 call about a fight between the father and son at the 11-70 Nameoake St. apartment building shortly before 12:30 a.m., NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera told reporters during an overnight briefing.

The officers met Chez’s parents outside. When they went to look for the younger man in the home, they couldn’t find him.

Chez then showed up in the hallway clutching a box cutter.

“The father of the male immediately engaged in an altercation with his son, which then became physical,” Rivera said. “The officers gave multiple verbal commands to the male to drop the weapon as they attempted to deescalate the situation. The male did not comply with the demands to drop the weapon.

“The father disengaged from the physical altercation with his son and retreated behind the uniformed police officers,” the chief added. “At this point, the 29-year-old male, still armed with a box cutter, charged at the police officers.”

Rivera said one of the officers fired a stun gun, which failed to stop the charging man, while the second cop opened fire with his service weapon and struck him.

The officers performed CPR in the apartment, but Chez was pronounced dead at Jacobi Hospital.

“The police and the young man were banging into the door over and over again like wrestling in front of the door in the door,” neighbor Kean Bravo said, recounting the deadly encounter. “Then the gunshot. Then [the father] started yelling loud, ‘You killed my son in front of me?’ Very loud. ‘You killed my son! You killed my son right in front of me!’ over and over.”

Photos show Kevin Fray being led away by cops outside the building at one point in handcuffs, only to return after being released.

Police said the incident is under review, as is typical in officer-involved shootings.

“This incident once again demonstrates the dangers that our police officers face every day and how a routine call can quickly escalate into an extremely dangerous situation,” Rivera said.
