Progressive political commentator Cenk Uygur flagged a key detail in the Justice Department’s handling of files on Jeffrey Epstein that carries explosive implications about the disgraced financier and convicted child sex offender.
Per CNN, counterintelligence specialists were asked to help process the DOJ’s files on Epstein ahead of their release on Friday, as was mandated by the Epstein Files Transparency Act, a bill that forced the DOJ to release all of its files on Epstein by Friday, though the agency admitted it withheld hundreds of thousands of documents, an omission critics have called a blatant violation of the new law.
Two insiders revealed that counterintelligence specialists were asked to help process the DOJ’s files on Epstein under the condition of anonymity, a revelation that Uygur asserted had major implications.
“So, Epstein was related to national security,” Uygur wrote Friday in a social media post on X.
Other evidence exists that suggests Epstein may have had ties to intelligence of both the United States and Israel. Alexander Acosta, President Donald Trump’s former labor secretary and former prosecutor, was allegedly told that Epstein “belonged to intelligence” before offering Epstein a generous plea deal in the late 2000s.
In November, leaked emails reported on by Drop Site News revealed that Epstein had deep ties to the Israeli government, having helped broker a defense agreement between the West African nation Côte d’Ivoire and Israel, helped broker a security cooperation agreement between Mongolia and Israel, and established a backchannel for Israel to communicate with Russia during the Syrian Civil War.
