White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was raked over the coals on MS NOW on Friday morning over her braying announcement that Donald Trump’s name was being added to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Thursday afternoon, Leavitt took to X to let the public know that Trump’s hand-picked board overseeing the venerable institution had voted unanimously, which turned out to not be true, to rebrand the center with Trump’s name listed first.
According to Leavitt, “I have just been informed that the highly respected Board of the Kennedy Center, some of the most successful people from all parts of the world, have just voted unanimously to rename the Kennedy Center to the Trump-Kennedy Center, because of the unbelievable work President Trumphas done over the last year in saving the building.”
She added, “Not only from the standpoint of its reconstruction, but also financially, and its reputation. Congratulations to President Donald J. Trump, and likewise, congratulations to President Kennedy, because this will be a truly great team long into the future! The building will no doubt attain new levels of success and grandeur.”
After pointing out that it is legally questionable for the board to make the change, the panel took special umbrage with Leavitt for teaming President John F. Kennedy up with the current president.
“When Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced this name change yesterday, I mean, there have been a lot of unusual statements this year, but this is among the best,” co-Lemire stated before reading her statement on the partnership with Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1963.
Lemire then remarked, “Just a new level of absurdity here on this.”
After the conversation turned to Trump’s faltering profile with voters as he ignores the affordability crisis engulfing his administration, co-host Willie Geist joked, “It’s difficult. It’s unpleasant. Maybe for the president. A lot easier to talk about your minions naming things after you. So he does that.”
