Multiple people were killed after a jet owned by NASCAR driver Greg Biffle crashed and burst into flames Thursday at a North Carolina airport, according to reports.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office reported the fatalities and an exact number has yet to be released, according to WSOC-TV. It’s unknown if anyone survived.
The Cessna C550 business jet crashed while it was trying to land at Statesville Regional Airport about 10:20 a.m. Emergency crews were responding, 13News Now reported.
It’s unclear who was on the plane at the time of the crash, WSB-TV reported. The aircraft is registered to Biffle.
A witness standing at nearby Lakewood Golf Club told WSOC that the plane was flying “way too low” before it crashed.
