Donald Trump’s “MAGA mojo” has left him, according to a political analyst who called the president’s address to the nation “insane”.
Rick Wilson, a former member of the Republican Party, believes Trump has completely lost his way and is struggling to keep even his most dedicated support on side. Writing in his Substack, Wilson suggested Trump looked more like a “desperate, ranting old man” than anything else.
He wrote, “The speech was a loser, a flop, a disaster fueled by lies and dusted with Adderall, Trump at his mendacious worst, failing to spin the unspinnable: the disaster of the economic calamity his tariff war has visited on his own base and the wreck of American prosperity.”
“His old, hypnotic MAGA mojo was gone, leaving only a desperate, ranting old man trying for one last time to inspire the old magic. It failed, utterly.”
Wilson also released a reaction video shortly after the speech concluded and was left bemused by Trump’s 20-minute ramble. In the video, The Lincoln Project founder called it a “s— show” of a speech from the president.
He added, “What you were watching is a deep scream of outright panic. Donald Trump was not in control of himself tonight, he did not understand how to get out of the hole he’s put himself in, he can’t figure out how to dig himself out of the economic disaster that he has caused.”
“He can’t figure out how to pull himself out of the polling slump where he now has an approval rating of 38%, that is a screaming, flaming, white hot stinking disaster. In the space of a 20-minute scream-a-thon, every single one of the greatest hits of 2024, threw it against the wall. Guess what? None of it was convincing. Not a single bit of it was selling.”
Other public figures were stumped by the speech, with talk show host Jimmy Kimmel suggesting Trump was a “lunatic”. He said, “He knows deep down in the pit where his soul should be, in that pot where all the undigested fried chicken piles up, he knows that no one respects him.”
“He knows they all just want something from him. He knows the world is laughing at him and that his brain and face are like a creamsicle melting on the sidewalk.”
“So he calls up a trophy shop and says, ‘grab a pen, lets make some plaques.’ It takes a special kind of lunatic to get his insults cast in bronze. Can we please put this man in a home before he destroys the one he’s in now?”
