Rob Reiner’s final film release on pause after tragic murder: report

The release of Rob Reiner’s final film is reportedly on hold following the director’s tragic death.

“Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale,” the concert follow-up film to this year’s “Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues,” was expected to be released by Bleecker Street in IMAX in 2026.

But after Reiner and his wife Michele’s murders, the movie’s release plans have been halted until “the best path forward is decided with those closest to Rob and his family,” sources confirmed to Variety on Tuesday.

Page Six has reached out to Bleecker Street for comment.

“Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale” features Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer reprising their roles as members of the fictional heavy metal band Spinal Tap.

The movie includes live concert footage filmed at Stonehenge in October. Shania Twain, Eric Clapton and Josh Groban make guest appearances, according to Variety.

A 21-second teaser trailer for the project was released on Oct. 23. It stated that the movie would come out next year in theaters and in IMAX.

“Rock legends Spinal Tap perform at ancient Stonehenge, merging musical and historical grandeur in an amplified finale that perfectly unites the mystique of both the band and the prehistoric monument,” IMDb’s description of the film reads.

1984’s “This Is Spinal Tap” was Reiner’s feature directorial debut. The sequel, “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues,” was released on September 12.

“To me, [Spinal Tap: The End Continues] is more of a, ‘Let’s see where they are now’ than it is a sequel,” Reiner told Peoplein September. “I mean, listen, what kind of sequel do you have 41 years after the first? ‘Oh, we’re trading on it.’ It’s not that, like I said, it’s got to be a standalone.”

Three months before his death, Reiner teased a project that he was working on for over 50 years.

“I’m not going to mention one because it has to be kept under wraps, but I’m going to be shooting something in August,” he told Seth Rogen during an Interview Magazine chat in September.

“I had this idea I’ve had for over 50 years, and I’ve tried a number of times with different writers with different scripts. I’ve never been able to get a good one. I’m going to try one more time and see if I can pull it off. But again, I’ve got to find my way in.”

Later in that interview, Rogen, 43, offered to give Reiner a part on Season 2 of his Apple TV+ comedy “The Studio.”

“I would do it, for sure,” Reiner replied.

The 78-year-old director and his 70-year-old wife were found dead inside their Brentwood, California home on Sunday.

Their son Nick Reiner has been arrested and charged with stabbing his parents to death.

The 32-year-old, who has a history of addiction and homelessness, allegedly got into an uncomfortable yelling match with the couple at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas Party the night before the murders.

Nick is being held without bail.
