Ex-Trump ally believes Republicans will suffer hugely in next year’s midterms

Trump claims ‘dark and sinister forces’ want to dismantle his tariff policy

A former Trump ally whose close ties to the president were severed earlier this year believes the Republican Party will struggle at the 2026 midterms.

Marjorie Taylor Greene confirmed she will resign from her seat in the House of Representatives on January 5, 2026, but also sees some real trouble ahead for her colleagues. Speaking to Kaitlan Collins on The Source, Greene suggested the “dam is breaking” when it comes to Trump’s supporter base.

Greene added, “I think the midterms are going to be very hard for Republicans. I’m one of the people that’s willing to admit the truth and say I don’t see Republicans winning the midterms right now.”

Part of that dam breaking could be because of recent comments made by the president over the deaths of film director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. The pair were found dead at their homes on Sunday (December 14), and Trump’s statement over the deaths received much criticism.

Trump’s first statement regarding Reiner’s death reads, “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”

“He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”

She believes this, among other problems with the administration, are reasons some Republicans are shifting away from supporting the president.

Greene said of the statement, “I thought that statement was absolutely completely below the office of the president of the United States, classless, and it was just wrong. MAGA faithful reacted big time and they called it out. I think the dam is breaking.”
