Late Night Pays Tribute to Rob Reiner

Welcome to Late Night Roundup, a rundown of the previous night’s highlights that lets you sleep — and lets us get paid to watch comedy. Here are the 50 best movies on Netflix right now.

Never Too Much

Late night hosts remembered Rob Reiner after he and his wife, Michele, were found fatally stabbed in their home on Sunday afternoon.

Seth Meyers delivered a heartfelt, personal tribute to Reiner on Monday’s “Late Night,” wherein he denigrated a Truth Social post President Trump made about the director less than 12 hours after his death.

“I feared this was something he was going to do, and I was pretty certain that it would cast a shadow on what was already a really dark day, but it was even worse than I could imagine,” Meyers said.

“The president made it about himself because he’s incapable of making it about anything else.” — SETH MEYERS

“Just when you think he can’t go any lower, he somehow finds a way to do that.” — JIMMY KIMMEL

“Insulting someone who’s just been murdered, who leaves children behind, without having any idea of what actually happened — it’s so hateful and vile. When I first saw it, I thought it was fake. My wife showed it to me this morning. It was, like, even for him that seemed like too much. But nothing is ever too much for him.” — JIMMY KIMMEL

“And I have to say, I know from my personal interactions with Rob Reiner that he would want us to keep pointing out the loathsome atrocities that continue to ooze out of this sick and irresponsible man’s mouth, and so we’re going to do that over and over again until the rest of us wake up.” — JIMMY KIMMEL

“What we need at a time like this, besides common sense when it comes to guns and mental health care, is compassion and leadership. We did not get that from our president, because he has none of it to give. Instead, we got a fool rambling about nonsense.” — JIMMY KIMMEL

“He was one of the smartest and funniest people I’ve ever met. What a tremendous loss, and he leaves behind such a legacy. Thank you for all of the great work, on and off screen, and continuing to be an inspiration to me and millions of people around the world.” — JIMMY FALLON

“He was a man who set an example, and there is such a value in that, and we have to do everything we can to not make setting an example a lost art.” — SETH MEYERS

The Punchiest Punchlines (Snakes in the White House Edition)

“Yesterday, our president celebrated the first night of Hanukkah by holding a Christmas party where he told a story that somehow lasted eight nights.” — STEPHEN COLBERT

“Yep, during Trump’s Christmas address, he talked about snakes, sharks and an Ivanka look-alike. In a weird way, Trump’s Christmas speech worked, ’cause it left the entire room thinking, ‘Sweet baby Jesus.’” — JIMMY FALLON

“What is going on? Did someone give him a White House screening of ‘Anaconda’ this weekend?” — JIMMY KIMMEL

The Bits Worth Watching

Jimmy Kimmel surprised an unsuspecting family by inviting Michelle Obama to join their festive photo op on Monday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

What We’re Excited About on Tuesday Night

CNN’s “New Year’s Eve Live” co-hosts, Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper, will appear on Tuesday’s “Late Show.”
