A pair of right-wing extremists seethed in a recent podcast interview that President Donald Trump may have squandered an opportunity to crush the left, which one of them said was handed to them “on a silver platter,” according to a new report
Richard Spencer, an avowed white nationalist, and Nick Fuentes, a right-wing provocateur and Nazi sympathizer, discussed the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on a recent podcast episode, Right Wing Watch reported on Monday. The discussion occurred at a time when MAGA figures like podcasters Candace Owens, Allie Beth Stuckey, and Matt Walsh had locked horns over conspiracy theories surrounding Kirk’s death.
Spencer said Kirk’s murder presented a “Reichstag fire” moment for the MAGA movement to destroy their political enemies.
“When Charlie Kirk was killed, there was a lot of talk on the dissident right about … I heard this all over the place, ‘We’ve got two weeks to crack down. We can destroy the left right now,’” Spencer said. “You heard all of that, and it does seem like [Trump] missed his moment.”
After Kirk was killed, the Trump administration moved swiftly to name and shame people who said critical or negative things about the activist. About 600 people reported losing their jobs over comments they made on social media about Kirk, Reuters reported.
“To use an analogy that I might regret, it was almost as if there was a Reichstag fire of sorts and Hitler decided that he wanted to roast marshmallows as opposed to engaging the Enabling Act,” Spencer continued, referring to legislation Hitler used to bypass Germany’s parliament to rule by decree.
“I have been thinking about that for the last couple of weeks, and it’s an extraordinary missed opportunity,” Fuentes replied.
